J. William Tincup co-founded Starr Tincup as a premium marketing agency for business-to-business software & services companies. Like any other bootstrapped start-up, William has worn many hats. William has over 14 years of management and leadership experience. He has worked for: Wal-Mart, Albertson's, The Smithsonian: National Museum of American Indian, The Smithsonian: National Museum of Natural History, National Park Service, Ariesnet, Wyse Advertising and Liggett Stashower.

William has earned 3 degrees and one professional certificate. William earned an MBA with a specialization in Marketing and Operations from Case Western Reserve University (1999). He also has a Masters in American Indian Studies from the University of Arizona (1997) and a BA in Art History from the University of Alabama (1994). He is an expert in the field of Native American Repatriation. His master's thesis "A Critical Analysis of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act" is often cited by academics. Also while at CWRU, he earned a Certificate in Nonprofit Management (CNM) from the highly respected Mandel Center (1999).  He graduated from Business Volunteers Unlimited's Volunteer Trustee Institute in 1998. More recently, he graduated from Leadership Fort Worth’s 2003 - 2004 class and graduated from Tarrant County’s United Way Blueprint for Board Service program in March, 2004.

William has always served the community in which he resides. His past philanthropic activities have been with: Birmingham Art Guild, Birmingham Museum of Art, Birmingham Zoo, Greater Cleveland United Way, Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity, Committee for Public Art (Cleveland), Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless and Cleveland Restoration Society. William currently serves on three nonprofit boards: Contemporary Dance/Fort Worth, Stage West and Texchange.
