Join us for an evening with the leaders of the local Venture Capital community.


Speakers:
Mark G. Heesen - President, National Venture Capital Association
As President of the National Venture Capital Association, Mr. Heesen is responsible for all Association activities, including leading its professional staff, working closely with the NVCA Board of Directors and venture capital community, developing Association policies and strategies, and directing the Association's national legislative and regulatory efforts. In addition, Mark oversees the management of NVCA's affiliate organization, the American Entrepreneurs for Economic Growth, which now represents 14,000 emerging growth companies. Since 1991, Mark has worked on behalf of the venture capital community to enact a wide range of policies that benefit the venture capital and entrepreneurial communities, including a significant capital gains differential, securities litigation reform, accounting treatment of stock options and merger accounting, reform of the FDA pre-market approval process, among others. Prior to coming to the NVCA, Mark was an aide to a former Governor of Pennsylvania and was Deputy Director for Federal Funds reporting to the Texas Legislature. Mark received a law degree with an emphasis in taxation from the Dickinson School of Law in 1984.

Bill Wood - General Partner, Silverton Partners
Bill Wood has been a venture investor in a variety of industries for the past twenty years. He now invests personally in early stage companies through Silverton Partners, a private partnership. Prior to founding Silverton Partners, Bill was a founding general partner of Austin Ventures.

John Thornton - General Partner, Austin Ventures
John Thornton joined Austin Ventures in 1991 and focuses on software investing. Previously, John was with McKinsey & Co., where he served clients in the U.S. and Europe. He has worked with companies such as Active Power (NASDAQ: ACPW), Dazel (NYSE: HP), Metasolv (NASDAQ: MSLV), Mission Critical (NASDAQ: NTIQ), Motive (NASDAQ: MOTV), Pentasafe (NASDAQ: NTIQ), TechRepublic (NYSE: IT), Tivoli (NASDAQ: TIVS), Vignette (NASDAQ: VIGN), and Waveset (NASDAQ: SUNW).John received his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and his BA summa cum laude from Trinity University, where he graduated first in his class. He is a founding board member of the Entrepreneur's Foundation and a former trustee of both Trinity University and the Austin Museum of Art.
